The holidays are quickly approaching as is the cold weather. For many of us this is not such a joyous time. Pain from arthritis can dampen our spirit. I personally have five forms of arthritis. I found a few ways to ease my pain that I would like to share with you. I will take you through a typical day. As soon as I get up in the morning I get a really hot shower and take my morning meds. This helps with my morning stiffness termendisly. I then approach my daily routine with a plan that includes lots of breaks. I have developed techniques to complete my kitchen tasks. For example I use and apple corer to slice my morning apple. However; instead of using my hands to push it through I use my forearms. My hands are too swollen and painful to use them. Next to open my yogurt I use the ring I wear on my thumb. I slide it right under the edge of the rim and the lid lifts right up. The ring looks good as well is a huge help when opening containers in the kitchen.

I then proceed on with my other activities. It is really hard to make plans never knowing how I am going to feel so I always make plans tentatively . When I want to shop I plan what stores I need to go to and go in non busy hours to avoid unwanted lines which causes pain for me to stand. I also never leave without a note. I kind of map out the store so I am not going back and forth looking for things. Upon retuning home I rest as long as need be. Having children , I do not have an option of not caring for them as I am sure those of you that have children know what I am saying . I then prepare their meals and help with home work while sitting down as much as I can. At night I use an item called the stick, it promotes blood flow and reduces swelling. I then pop my bed Buddy which is moist heat into the microwave . I really love this product it really takes away pain for several hours. While watching TV I make sure I am sitting in a comfortable position to avoid more pain. This sounds like a lot of work but it really is not . I actually find I am able to go longer without major flares when I plan and find a balance between activities and rest. I wish you all a pain free day.
